“I
know the Lord will maintain the cause of the afflicted and justice for the
poor. Surely the righteous shall give thanks to Your name; the upright
shall dwell in Your presence.” Psalm 140:12-13
It
is the “righteous” who “dwell in [the Lord’s] presence”, those who are attuned
to the will of the Lord who will “maintain the cause of the afflicted and
justice for the poor” in the name of the Holy God. It is our charge, as
it as Jesus’ charge, to carry out the mission of the Lord to proclaim the Gospel
and give comfort to those who are so “afflicted” by a world that threatens to
overcome. Only by righteousness in our words and deeds will the
“afflicted” and the “poor” know it is the Lord who looks after them.
Let
us resolve to live according to all our Lord has charged us with. Let us
see that these charges are not “burdens” to be carried, but rather
“opportunities” to serve that lift us up. It is His will; it is His way.
Blessings,
Michael
