“I
am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may
die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never
die. Do you believe this?” John 11:25-26
To
“believe”, especially in this context, is to do much more than to simply
acknowledge a concept. To “believe” in this case is to “embrace”, to make
this concept a reality in one’s whole life; for it is in this life that life is
found in Christ … on the journey and not simply in an event. Not in a
mere “statement” but in a total commitment. To “believe” is to “embrace”
the whole of Jesus’ life and all He taught us according to the Law and how we
must live with and for one another in the community of faith.
Let
discipleship – that is, a whole life devoted to Christ – be our expression of
faith as St. James encourages us to remember that faith at work in our lives is
faith alive in our works, however great or small those works may be.
Blessings,
Michael
